When Andersen closed in June 2002, after 22 years with them, eight as Assurance Partner,

we opened our audit/accounting practice under Alberto R. Lázaro PSC, sharing space and resources with Juan Zaragoza and Juan Alvarado, former partners in charge of Andersen's Tax Division, now operating under Zaragoza & Alvarado LLP, and Carlos R. Baralt, former principal in charge of Andersen’s litigation support and forensic accounting services, now operating under Carlos R. Baralt PSC.  We have formed a strategic alliance to provide a full service solution in the audit/accounting, tax, litigation support and forensic accounting areas.

We have successfully completed an independent peer review of our accounting and auditing practice.  This review is undertaken as a condition of membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), a 330,000 member voluntary national organization of CPAs in public practice, industry, government and education.  There are only 175 CPAs or CPA firms in Puerto Rico committed to the periodic quality performance reviews of the AICPA.  

The review results confirmed that our firm complies with the stringent quality control standards set by the AICPA in the areas of independence, integrity, objectivity, personnel management, acceptance and continuance of clients and engagements, engagement performance, and monitoring of the quality control system.  Our latest peer review report, was unmodified and without a letter of comments.  We are committed to continue participating in the AICPA peer review program, which requires undergoing a review every three years.  Copy of our AICPA peer review report is available upon request.

In addition, as a firm committed to performing quality employee benefit plan audits, we are one of a few local CPA firms who belong to the recently established AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center, a firm based voluntary membership center which provides resources for the quality performance of audits of plans subject to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) under the regulatory authority of the US Department of Labor (DOL).
